A magnitude 6.1 earthquake rattled Panama on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter of the quake was 111 miles (179 km) south of the city of David and at a depth of 6.2 miles (10 km).

Residents in Panama City, the capital, about 200 miles (322 km) from David, said they did not feel any movement.

A quake of that magnitude is considered strong and capable of causing severe damage.
