Malaysian Chinese party rivals agree to work togerther

Malaysia's second largest ruling party on Thursday agreed to work as a team to unite the party and resolved all issues confronting the party's leadership.

The Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) holds 15 seats in the 222-member parliament and has been mired in a battle between its president and deputy president which had threatened to split the ailing party.

"This is the time to forgive and forget and to look at the bigger picture of what is good for the party and not for individuals," MCA President Ong Tee Keat said in a statement issued with his rival, Chua Soi Lek.

The MCA is part of the National Front coalition that has ruled Malaysia for 52 years.
