PLC MP-elect and Hamas Movement spokesman, on Monday denied reports quoting him as saying that his Movement would nominate its leader in the Strip Ismail Haneyya to form the new government.
Masri, in a statement to the PIC, said that what the media had circulated in this regard was not accurate.
He said that the new premier would be a Hamas leader, yet declaring his name would be after PA chief Mahmoud Abbas officially asks Hamas in its capacity as the winner of the PLC elections to form the new cabinet lineup, which is expected after the PLC session next Saturday.
Asked on the cabinet portfolios that the Movement would retain, Masri said that designating portfolios was linked to consultations with all forces and factions in order to reach common grounds "because we want a national unity government and do not seek to impose a special agenda and the issue is still being deliberated".
The media recently speculated that Haneyya was the Movement's candidate to the post of premier after recent consultations between the Movement's leaders within the Strip and those outside Palestine.
