Massive demonstrations were held across occupied Kashmir against Denmark and some other European countries for publishing blasphemous cartoons by certain newspapers.
The largest demonstration was held by All Parties Hurriyet conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in Srinagar. The demonstrators raised anti-west slogans. Addressing the demonstrators Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that the Muslims would tolerate anything other than the blasphemous acts against their faith and the holy Prophet. He said that some Western publications had been blatantly hurting the religious sentiments of the Muslims. He demanded OIC hold a special session over the recent blasphemous publication so as to adopt a united stand by the Muslim World. Earlier addressing a religious gathering at Jamia Masjid, Srinagar Mirwaiz Umar said that the blasphemous publication had hurt the sentiments of Muslims all over the world. He said that some Western countries were drawing pleasure in hatching conspiracies and attacking the faith of Muslims which, was "totally unacceptable" to Muslims of the world including those of Jammu & Kashmir. He said that the publication deserved the strongest condemnation. Mirwaiz urged the Muslims of the world to unite and foil "all anti-Islam intrigues". He also condemned the desecration of holy Quran in Ladakh. Reports pouring in from five rural district headquarters in the Valley said that anti-West and the anti-Denmark demonstrations were held in all major townships in Baramulla, Kupwara, Budgam, Pulwama and Islamabad.
