Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa conferred here Thursday with Britains new Foreign Secretary David Miliband covering regional issues and matters of mutual interest.

The discussions centred on the Middle East peace process and in particular the Arab Peace Initiative, a brief statement from the Foreign Office said.

In addition, the two sides also covered Iraq, Lebanon and Darfur, the statement added.
On Iraq, both Moussa and Miliband stressed the importance of ensuring the security and stability of the country and maintaining its territorial integrity.

On Lebanon, the Arab League Secretary General briefed Miliband on the mediation efforts he had conducted in Lebanon with a view to defuse the current crisis, Arab diplomatic sources said.

Moussa arrived here yesterday on a brief visit to the UK during which he was also meeting MPs and members of the House of Lords to discuss with them the current situation in the region, with particular emphasis on the Arab peace plan which was adopted at the latest Riyadh Arab Summit Tonight, Moussa will be the guest of honour at a reception to be held by the Council of Arab-British Understanding (CAABU), a pro-Arab lobby group here.

The event is to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of CAABU.
