The video, which was intercepted before it was to appear on websites, lasts 40 minutes and was likely compiled in the last four weeks, the news network said.

Bin Laden, which appears only for 50 seconds in the video, glorified the dead al-Qaida fighters and wished himself the status of a martyr, according to the CNN translation of his remarks from Arabic.

The undated footage also contains old clips and its authenticity has not been verified.

CNN did not say how the video was intercepted.

Claim

A new videotape released by the Al Qaeda contains potentially previously unseen footage of leader Osama bin Laden that is apparently years old.

US-based broadcaster Fox News claimed that the clip of bin Laden, about 50 seconds on a tape of more than 40 minutes, could be at least five years old. The video is labelled as having been produced by al- Qaeda’s communications wing.

In the video clip, bin Laden can be heard encouraging Muslims to become martyrs, as Al Qaeda describes its suicide attackers.
