Sebahat Tuncel --who was in Gebze prison under charges of being a member of an illegal organization-- was released on Tuesday as she was elected MP independently in the Sunday elections.
Early in the day Baran Dogan, lawyer of Tuncel, presented a petition to the court asking for the release of Tuncel as she was elected parliamentarian.
The court decided to release Tuncel in line with the article 83rd of Constitution that regulates legislative immunity.
According to the 83rd article of Constitution, a parliamentarian who allegedly committed a crime before or after elections cannot be interrogated, arrested and judged as long as Parliament demands so.
Tuncel told reporters that she is very happy, noting that people gave her an important mission in struggle for democracy and peace, and that she will fulfill this mission in the best way.
Tuncel has been in prison for 9 months.
