Turkey-Oman joint economic commission convened in Ankara on Thursday.

Turkish Interior Minister Besir Atalay and Omani National Economy Ministry Secretary General Mohammed Bin Nasser Al Khasibi co-chaired the meeting.

Atalay said that trade volume between Turkey and Oman, which was 30 million USD in 2004, increased to 116 million USD in 2007.

Atalay said that the free trade agreement between Turkey-Gulf Cooperation countries would start a new period in relations between Turkey and Oman.

He said that free trade agreement would contribute to development of regional commerce besides bilateral trade.

Atalay said that Turkish contractors had undertaken business worth of 21 billion USD in Gulf countries in recent years. He added that the value of projects, which Turkish contractors undertook only in 2007 in Gulf countries, was 4.6 billion USD.

Atalay said that Turkish contractors undertook projects worth of 1.5 billion USD in Oman.

He said that there were wide cooperation opportunities in agriculture and fishery sectors besides industry between the two countries.

Khasibi said that they aimed to increase commerce and investments between the two countries.
