Senior Kashmiri Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Gilani, has said that despite Pakistan-India dialogue process, there is not let up in Indian state-terrorism in occupied Kashmir. Addressing a press conference in Srinagar today, he pointed out that Indian troops are committing worst human rights violations against Kashmiris and Kashmiri women are particularly bearing the brunt of troops' atrocities. He urged the world community to put pressure on India to resolve Kashmir dispute through peaceful means.
According to the data, released by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service, on the occasion of the International Women's Day, today, during the period from 1989 till date, 22,373 Kashmiri women have been widowed in the wake of Indian troops' killing spree in occupied Kashmir. The troops disgraced 9,638 women and, on an average, killed one woman every three days, during this period. Besides, hundreds of illegally detained women are languishing in jails in a pitiable condition.
The APHC, in a statement in Srinagar today, expressed serious concern over stepped-up military atrocities against women in occupied Kashmir. It pointed out that the troops are frequently resorting to disgracing and harassing of women and are using them as war weapon.
