Organization of Islamic Conference's (OIC) Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu condemned here Sunday Israel's closure of the Aqsa institution which was subjected to abuse and robbery while the closure was in effect.
This was a clear violation of Palestinian Islamic and Christian cultural heritage and evidence of Israel's intensions to tamper with the true identity of Jerusalem, said the official.
Israeli police on Sunday shut down an Islamic institute in northern Israel over alleged ties with Hamas, a move that influences Arab citizens in the Jewish state.
Sheikh Raed Salah, who founded the Al-Aqsa Institute said the institute was founded 10 years ago and has an Israeli licence to operate. Some 20 percent of Israel's citizens are Arabs and they struggle to protect their Palestinian identification under Jewish administration.
The international community should practice pressure on Israeli to prevent it from destroying and abusing Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian relics, concluded the statement, reported Kuwait News Agency.
