OIC welcomes US invitation for int'l peace conference
The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has welcomed President Bush's call for convening an international conference for Peace in the Middle East.

Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu stressed in a press release on Wednesday that the"OIC has always endeavoured to promote a just and comprehensive settlement for the conflict in the Middle East that would bring an end to the hardships of the Palestinian people.

A settlement, he affirmed, based on international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, and one that would ensure the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people including the establishment of their independent State with the city of Al-Quds (i.e.Jerusalem) as its capital on their land which has been occupied since 1967."

He also expressed hope that the invitation would "provide a serious step towards ending the Israeli occupation of all occupied Arab territories and promoting just and comprehensive peace on all tracks in the Middle East."
