"He'sa terrorist. You have a terrorist who is prime minister of the PalestinianAuthority now," Olmert said in an interview with Timemagazine released on Friday.
Olmertalso accused Haniya of personally transferring over $1 million to Palestinianfighters to carry out attacks on Israel.
GhaziHamad, an aide of Haniya, said Olmert's statements were "confused andirresponsible".
TheIsraeli media also quoted Olmert as saying there was a "revolutionarychange" in the perception of Arab states towards Israel.
"Thereis a process here that the fighting in Lebanon (last year) has sharpened,"Olmert was quoted as saying during a reception for his Kadima party.
"Thisprocess has brought the influential countries in the Arab world to begin torealise that Israel is not the biggest of all their troubles.
"Thisis a revolutionary change in their perception."
Olmertdescribed the this week's Arab League summit in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, as"definitely a serious affair".
At thesummit, Arab states recommitted themselves to a 2002 peace 'land-for-peace'proposal to Israel.
Israelimmediately rejected the offer but said it could provide a starting point fornegotiations.
"Wedo not delude ourselves. They want us to return to 1967 borders and they alsowant the right of return (for Palestinian refugees)," he was quoted assaying.
Israelhas objected to both those proposals.
"Thecontent is important, but it is also necessary to take into account theatmosphere, the positioning and direction (of the summit)," Olmert wasquoted as saying.
Israelhas vowed to boycott the Palestinian unity government which is a coalitionbetween of Hamas and Fatah.
"Haniyatransferred over a million dollars for a group of terrorists to carry outterrorist actions against Israeli citizens," Olmert said.
Olmertsaid the funds came from outside the Palestinian territories and weretransferred to one of Hamas's armed wings for the "explicit purpose ofcarrying out terrorist actions".
