Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is expected to ask Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas during their meeting due later on Monday to keep Hamas out of the administration, an Israeli daily said.
"Yedioth A'hronoth" said in its Monday's edition that Olmert, during the meet with Abbas scheduled to be held in the holy city of Jerusalem, is expected to ask the president to refrain from allowing Hamas rejoin the Palestinian authority.
Olmert is determined to pursue making overtures toward Abbas as part of a scheme aimed at bolstering his authority against Hamas, the Israeli daily said, citing sources in the premier's office.
The Israeli daily confirmed that Olmert intended to bolster Abbas' authority by rallying support for him from the DFLP and the other opposition movement, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. Leaders of both groups have been living in Syria.
Hawatmeh will be allowed to take part in a meeting of the Central Council of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), due in the West Bank on Wednesday.
