A Gaza spokesman for the Islamic Jihad organization, who identified himself as Abu Ahmed, told a London-based daily that the new missile has a range of up to 22 kilometres "and can hit as far north of Ashklelon."
Ashklelon, a city of around 117,000 people, is located around 12 kilometres north of the Gaza Strip, placing its southern outskirts, including one of Israel's main power stations.
Abu Ahmed said that "a brigade made up of 70 youths, including females, is ready to blow themselves up in the face of the Israeli army if it enters Gaza. The martyrdom operations will cause big losses among the Israeli soldiers."
