PM: Turkey to start public campaing on new Kurdish opening

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday that political parties, NGOs, academicians, and the media should take on the responsibility of the democratic move together.

Erdogan spoke to journalists after meeting with the representatives and leaders of other religions in Buyukada, Istanbul.

Erdogan said the government initiated this move by taking the consequences of it, "a vast majority of people support the move," he added.

Erdogan said, "we have started this move whether the political parties give support or not. We will get out in a short time if they give support. We will make public a report that will be prepared after works."

Erdogan said CD and booklets would be prepared and the issue would turn into a joint statement throughout Turkey with conferences, symposiums and panel discussions.

Asked about the initiatives to include Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and Republican People's Party (CHP) to the move, Erdogan said, "we have sent them written requests. MHP sent a written statement and rejected the offer. CHP hasn't sent a written statement rejecting the offer but there are negative statements."

Erdogan said Interior Minister Besir Atalay was acting as the "coordinator minister" and talking to political parties, unions and NGOs. "The recommendations and their opinions will be collected in a pool," he added.
