President Talabani calls PM Erdogan

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iraqi President Jalal Talabani discussed recent comment of the leader of the Iraqi Kurdistan Democratic Party (IKDP) Masoud Barzani during a phone conversation.

Iraqi President Talabani called PM Erdogan on Monday.

Sources quoted Talabani as telling Erdogan that he felt sad over recent statement of Barzani.

Stating that they attached great importance to relations with Turkey, Talabani underlined that they were also exerting efforts to have good relations with Turkey.

Talabani remarked that they have been in touch with Barzani.

On the other hand, Premier Erdogan recalled that they agreed not to make statements through media during the Arab League Summit held in Riyadh, stressing that everyone should be very careful when making such statements.

Talabani told Erdogan that he shared his (Erdogan's) sensitivity. Erdogan reminded Talabani of his statement that he made during their meeting in Riyadh saying "those who are against Turkey are also against us."

Talabani noted that they were against terrorist activities against Turkey and they would do their best against terrorist organization.

When PM Erdogan stated, "what will be done should be done as soon as possible," Talabani said that they were ready to fight against terrorist organization with a joint plan.

Barzani said in a television interview that Turkey was not allowed to intervene in the Kirkuk issue and if it did so, they would interfere in Diyarbakir and the other cities of Turkey.
