The acting leader of the Democratic Society Party (DTP), Selahattin Demirtaş, criticized a lawsuit recently filed for closure of the DTP and slammed the stance adopted by the government toward his party at a DTP demonstration on Sunday.
The DTP held a demonstration in Diyarbakır on Sunday that was attended by some 15,000 locals, during which Demirtaş slammed the lawsuit filed to close his party, saying: "They [the government] should keep in mind that Kurds living under the roof of the Turkish Republic wish to lead a free life with their own language and culture."
Twenty people were detained at the end of the demonstration when the demonstrators and police officers, trying to stop protesters from stoneing a Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) building, clashed.
