Traditional "Ramadan convoy" in Turkey on Monday started its journey with prayers that will finally reach historical Mostar Bridge in Bosnia after visiting seven countries.



The journey begins symbolically the "Mostar Bridge" whose construction is underway in Turkish district of Bayrampasa.



In 1566 the Ottoman architect, Mimar Hajrudin built Mostar Bridge, destroyed by Croatians in 1993, but later restored.

Bayrampasa mayor Huseyin Burge, NGO delegates, council members from Istanbul metropolitan municipality and other officials joined the ceremony which was held in front of the nearly finished Mostar bridge that unites Kartaltepe and Kocatepe districts in Bayrampasa of Istanbul.



Mayor Burge said this year's program was named "Ramadan in Balkans through Mostar to Mostar".

The "Blessing Convoy" starts its 5th journey this year. The convoy which officials said is based on the priciple of "brotherhood doesn't have any boundaries" got bigger since the first journey.



"We are sending the Blessing Convoy to our brothers and sisters in the Balkans," said Burge.

The program become more colorful with the attendance of Istanbul Historical Turkish Music Band and folklore shows.



After the recitation of Qur'an and prayers, the Blessing Convoy, which will visit 7 countries and 15 different cities set off , flying pigeons.
