'Red Sea might be used as potable water': Turk minister

Turkish environment minister had a meeting with Jordanian public works ministers in the Turkish capital of Ankara on Monday.

Jordan's Public Works & Housing Minister Sahel al-Majali paid a visit to Turkey's Environment & Forestry Minister Veysel Eroglu's office, and briefed the Turkish minister on the project on water conveyance from the Red Sea to Dead Sea.

"Water from the Red Sea would be transferred to the Dead Sea and electricity would be generated," Eroglu told reporter after their meeting.

Eroglu also said that the water from the Red Sea might be refined and used as potable water, and forecast the cost of the investment around 2-3 billion USD.

Turkey's minister said that there was dwelling need in Jordan, and told reporters that Turkish businessmen could invest in this industry in Jordan.
