Officials from the United States and Iran will meet Tuesday in Baghdad for direct talks about Iraqi security, the Washington Post reported Monday, citing sources at the US embassy in Baghdad.
The meeting between their ambassadors in Baghdad, Ryan Crocker of the United States of Hassan Kazemi-Qomi of Iran, would be only the second direct talks about Iraqi issues between the two countries, which have not had diplomatic relations for 27 years.
The two diplomats met in May at the home of Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.
This week's second round of US-Iranian direct talks were widely expected, but Tuesday's schedule was not previously revealed.
