Special forces surrounded a house in the village of Karabulak, about 10 kilometres (6 miles) north east of the main city of Nazran, and attacked when the insurgents refused to surrender, the spokesman said.
The house was destroyed in a fire sparked by the shoot-out, the reports said.
Ingushetia, which neighbours Chechnya, frequently sees clashes between insurgents and Russian security forces.
The local population share close ethnic ties and the Sunni branch of Islam with the Chechen people.
