The first round of negotiations on a free trade agreement with Turkey will be held in Ankara on December 5-6, Serbian Chamber of Commerce & Industry President Milos Bugarin said.

Serbia getting closer to free trade agreement with Turkey

"A free trade agreement with Turkey, the first round of talks on which will be held in Ankara, will give an impetus not just to bilateral trade and investments, but will enable Turkey to have greater benefits in trade with CEFTA members," Bugarin said in Istanbul, according to a Chamber statement.

Bugarin said that the two countries' trade amounted to about 300 million dollars, with a huge deficit on the Serbian side.

"We cannot boast with the size of Turkish investments in Serbia. In addition to the Efes company, which has been present in Serbia for five years, the Istanbul-based Ozer Motor company decided this month to build two factories in Boljevac - one for the impregnation of wood and the other for the mounting of electromotors and machineworking equipment," he said.

He said that this greenfield investment was worth 12 million euros and that together with it Turkey's total investment in Serbia was worth 45 million dollars.
