The blast, which also injured at least 21 people, came as the Iraqi foreign minister, Hoshiyar Zebari, announced a new round of talks between US and Iranian officials to discuss the security situation in the country.
Two or three mortar rounds hit the prison, near the Shaab stadium in the centre of the Iraqi capital, the official said.

Seven inmates at a Baghdad prison were killed in a mortar attack today, an Iraqi security official said.
