Sharif to return home on Sunday

Exiled former prime minister Nawaz Sharif will return to Pakistan from Saudi Arabia on Sunday, a top aide said, two months after his last attempt ended with his deportation hours later.

Sharif to return home on Sunday

"Mian Nawaz Sharif will land at the airport in (the eastern city of) Lahore at 4:00pm (1200 GMT) on Sunday," Raja Zafar-ul Haq, senior leader of Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-N party, said.

He will be accompanied by his wife Kulsoom Nawaz and younger brother Shahbaz Sharif, Haq said.

Sharif was deported in September back to Saudi Arabia when he tried to return after seven years in exile despite a court verdict allowing him to live in his homeland.

The two-time former premier was banished to Saudi Arabia in December 2000 a year after General Pervez Musharraf toppled his government.

The government sent him back in September saying that under a deal arranged by Saudi Arabia, the PML-N leader had undertaken to live outside Pakistan for a decade.
