Storm struck Istanbul at sea and on land as the Turkish authorities warned the negative impacts for days.



Rainfall started during the evening hours in Istanbul. Strong wind caused 3 meter waves at sea, the waves beat coastline. Dozens of ships anchored in Marmara were not able to sail.

High winds showed its impact severely on land as well. In Mecidiyekoy, Beyoglu, and Sisli, trees fell down. Overthrown trees were removed by the fire fighters.



Showers started at the evening hours and many Istanbul residents were caught unprepared. Gaining speed gradually, rain water caused many puddles on the roads. People tried to avoid rain by running from the rain and staying under the eaves. The ones who do not carry an umbrella, used nylon bags and clothes to protect themselves from rain.



According to the information received from State Meteorological Service General Directorate, a new rainy weather system will be effective throughout Istanbul in the next few days starting on Wednesday. Severe southern storm and strung thunderstorms could be seen in nothernwestern city of Tekirdag and Istanbul's southern and western districts.
