South Korean President Lee Myung Bak inaugurated

Former businessman and ex-mayor of Seoul Lee Myung Bak became South Korea's new president Monday after being sworn in before parliament in a solemn ceremony.

Lee, 66, took the oath of office before tens of thousands of officials and guests, including foreign dignitaries, among them US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda and Russian Prime Minister Victor Zubkov.

Lee decisively won December's election, ending a decade of liberal rule, on a promise to make the economy his top priority

He will serve a five-year term, succeeding Roh Moo Hyun.
