Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX) gave information about Turkey to Spanish businessmen who are willing to invest abroad.
An official of the Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Turkey spoke at a seminar organized by ICEX to encourage Spanish businessmen to invest in Turkey on Wednesday and said that Turkey aims to grow by investing in technology, industry and service sector.
"We are not competing with India or China. We know we can not grow by making white undershirts," said Levent Seckin, deputy chairman of the agency.
Seckin said Turkey was the youngest population of EU, world's 15th and Europe's 6th largest economy, world's 3rd biggest yacht maker and 8th vessel builder.
"In addition to these, 37 million Turkish people use credit cards and there are 63 million mobile phone subscribers and 22 million internet users," he said.
Turkey aims to increase its exports to 134 billion USD at the end of this year, up from 107 billion in 2007, he said.
Seckin also said that Turkey was a hub to open up to new markets thanks to its geographical position and an energy corridor from east to west.
Separately, ICEX published a booklet about Turkey which analyses Turkish economy and investment opportunities in several sectors.
The booklet called on Spanish businessmen to invest in Turkey and said, "before other investors, Spanish companies should try to seize a place in Turkey which still offers opportunities."
