Sri Lanka Muslim leader back to Opposition
Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Leader Rauff Hakeem, General Secretary Hasan Ali, Chairman Basheer Cegu Dawood and Ampara district MP Faisal Cassim crossed over to the opposition at the parliament today.

MP Hakeem was the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications while MP Hasan Ali was the Deputy Minister of Supplementary Plantation Crops Development in the present government.

SLMC sources said that the reason for the cross over is the present government's inaction and ignorance over the problems faced by the Muslim community in Sri Lanka.

SLMC supported Opposition leader Ranil Wickremasinghe during the last presidential elections in 2005. The party has been quite annoyed over its dwindling power in the Eastern Province due to the emerging Tamil political front Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP), led by former LTTE leader for the East Karuna Amman.
