Suspect of Turkish girl murder surrenders

The suspected killer of a teenage girl surrendered to the police in Istanbul.

Muammer Guler, governor of Turkey's megacity, said at a late-night news conference, "the suspect was handed over to the police by his lawyer. He was detained and taken to the Security Department for interrogation. Now, the judiciary will make the necessary decision."

The suspect, identified only with his initials as C.G., was sent to the Security Department's Juvenile Office for interrogation since he is under 18-year-old.

17-year-old Munevver Karabulut was dumped in a trash container in Istanbul's Etiler district after being decapitated on March 3. Her body inflicted with multiple stab wounds was found stuffed in a suitcase. Her head was found in a guitar case in a separate trash container nearby. Her killing created a nationwide outrage while friends and other people launched one of the largest internet campaigns ever seen in Turkey.
