Suspect says shot Turkish union leader over debt

Chairman of a major trade organization Suleyman Celebi, who was shot in the foot, was taken to Florance Nightingale Hospital in Istanbul on Monday.

Celebi, chairman of Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DISK), was shot in the foot in an armed attack in DISK HQ in Sisli district of Istanbul today.

Officials said that Celebi had a few bullets in his left foot, and his medical controls were continuing. Celebi was in good condition, added the officials.

The suspect, who was immediately caught after the attack, told police "that he shot Celebi as he did not pay his debt."
