Tajikistan detains two Russian soldiers for murder
Tajikistan detained two Russian soldiers suspected of murdering a local taxi driver, an Interior Ministry source.
Tajikistan on Thursday detained two Russian soldiers suspected of murdering a local taxi driver, an Interior Ministry source told Reuters.
The former Soviet republic bordering Afghanistan hosts a 7,500-strong Russian military base, which includes Russia's largest infantry group abroad.
"Two soldiers ... (from the Russian base) have been detained today on suspicion of murder," the source said.
"They will be charged soon."
He said the ministry suspects the soldiers of killing a taxi driver not far from the base last month.
A source at the Russian base confirmed the detentions.
"We are checking whether our servicemen were involved in this incident and are assisting the investigation," it said.
