Three suspected PKK fundraisers arrested in Romania

Three men under suspicion of funding the banned Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) through drug dealing were arrested in Bucharest Wednesday, Romanian news agency Mediafax reported.

The two Turks and a Syrian, who are all Romanian residents, had organized the transport of 58 kilos of heroin, which had been discovered on a truck by the authorities at the Turkish-Bulgarian border on December 14, according to the public prosecutor.

The heroin was reportedly destined for the Netherlands.

The three suspects, who have been temporarily arrested for 29 days, belonged to a network which extended into Ukraine, it was said.

Romanian, Bulgarian and Turkish police collaborated in the search.
