Following a victory over Euro 2008 co-hosts Switzerland thanks to an added time goal, Turkey's coach Fatih Terim said on Thursday that he was hopeful for quarterfinals.
"We are still in Euro 2008 and we still have hopes," Terim said. "I earlier said that the tournament would begin with Switzerland match for us. Now it is good to start with 3 points."
Terim said he was not expecting such a heavy rainfall before the game, however, all of his players were quite well at the slippery pitch.
Turkey have 3 points in Group A and will play against Czech Republic who also have 3 points. There is no goal difference between Turkey and Czech Republic.
If Turkey and Czech Republic draw in the last group match, the team to qualify to quarterfinals will be clear after the penalty shoot-out without playing an extra time, according to change in UEFA rules.
