Turkey's biggest fixed-line phone company Turk Telekom's net profit fell to 399 million YTL in the first quarter of this year, down from 515 million YTL last year, due to differences in foreign exchange, company's head Paul Doany said on Monday. (1 YTL equals 1.25 USD).
CEO Doany told a press conference that the number of Turk Telekom ADSL subscribers are expected to reach 6 million at the end of this year. Turk Telekom has roughly 4.95 million ADSL subscribers now, he said.
Doany also said that Turkey's third largest GSM operator Avea --81 percent shares owned by Turk Telekom-- reached 10.5 million subscribers.
Avea CEO Cuneyt Turktan told the same conference that the company grew 30 percent in Q1 and plans 300 million USD of investment this year.
"We reached 17 percent market share," Turktan said.
Avea competes with market leader Turkcell and Vodafone.
