Following the meeting, Steinmeier told reporters that he informed Gul on his recent visit to the Middle East. Stressing that "results of the elections in Palestine had created new perspectives in the region", Steinmeier said that "Turkey and Germany should work together to boost peace process in Palestine". Noting that "efforts could yield positive results only under certain conditions", Steinmeier listed those conditions as Hamas' putting an end to acts of violence as a political power and accepting the (ME) Road Map. Steinmeier noted that "Hamas' acceding to the Road Map would mean recognition of Israel's entity". Recalling that Turkey had very close and intense relations with regional countries including Israel and Jordan, Steinmeier added that they would continue exchanging views with Turkish officials on these matters.
