Turkey attaches high importance to Gulf stability

Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said Turkey was among the countries that would be directly affected by any instability in the Gulf region.

Babacan, currently in Jeddah to attend Turkey-Gulf Cooperation Council Strategic Dialogue First Foreign Ministers' meeting, gave a news conference with Qatar's Foreign Minister Hamad bin Jasim bin Jabir Al Thani.

Babacan said Turkey and other members of Gulf Cooperation Council shared mutual interests and targets, indicating that Turkey attached great importance to security of the Gulf region.

"Gulf countries have been establishing economic and political relations for the past 30 years. Turkey has positive relations with those countries. This structure is not an alternative to any other relation," he added.
