In response to a question on the recent operation of the Turkish Armed Forces in north of Iraq, Casey noted that "the Turkish Government did this in response to their national security concerns."

"As we have reiterated, we have a common goal in seeing the PKK eliminated and not being given a safe haven anywhere. And certainly, as the President George Bush said in his meetings with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, we intend to work cooperatively with the Government of Turkey on this issue," Casey remarked.

Casey added that the U.S. does not want to see the Turkish Government involved in a broad military incursion in north of Iraq.
