Turkey, Hungary says want to boost ties

Chairman of the Turkish Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee, Murat Mercan, met with the Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Balazs and an accompanying delegation in Ankara on Thursday.

Turkey and Hungary have extremely good relations. We work closely with Hungarian parliamentarians in many European committees, Mercan said.

We will host the Hungarian Foreign Affairs Committee delegation in Turkey between November 3 and 6. I thank the people of Hungary for their support extended to Turkey's EU bid, Mercan said.

We hope that the Hungarians express their (positive) thoughts on Turkey's EU bid at different platforms in Europe. We pay high attention to not only developing economic and commercial relations but also interparliamentary relations with Hungary, Mercan noted.

Peter Balazs, in his part, said that he is pleased to see good relations between the parliaments of the two countries.

We would like to develop our relations that are multi-dimensional and deep rooted with Turkey, Balazs said.

We are deeply interested in the developments in western Balkan region. Our interests in that region are the same as Turkey's. The stability in Bosnia-Herzegovina is important for Hungary, Balazs said.

Hungary is a good friend of Turkey. We support you on your path to full membership in the EU. However, there are steps to be taken both by Turkey and the EU in this direction, Balazs also said.
