Turkey says Romania platform to double natural gas production

Efforts are underway to conclude construction of Turkish Petroleum Corporation's (TPAO) natural gas production and drilling platform in Romania which will double Turkey's natural gas production.

A Romanian company constructs the giant platform in a dockyard for TPAO in Constanza city of Romania, which is in the Black Sea coast.

The two storey platform will extract the natural gas discovered off shores of Turkey's Black Sea town of Akcakoca in 2003.

Turkish Minister of Energy & Natural Resources Ministry Undersecretary Metin Kilci told reporters after visiting the dockyard that Turkey's natural gas production would be doubled after the conclusion of the platform.

The platform, planned to go into service at the end of 2010, will cost 100 million USD.

First storey of the platform will be used for natural gas production and the second storey will be used for exploration.
