Turkey to hold general population census in 2011
A Turkish state minister said that Turkey would hold a general census in 2011.
A Turkish state minister said on Saturday that Turkey would hold a general census in 2011.
Turkey's State Minister Cevdet Yilmaz said that the census would be held by modern techniques, not by asking people to stay at their homes during the census.
"First of all, we will send notes to houses in our address based population system, and ask them to inform us," Yilmaz said.
Yilmaz also said that if authorities did not receive any response, then they would intervene and fill in the gaps.
The Turkish Board of Statistics (TUIK) announced Turkey's population as 70.5 million in 2007.
