Egemen Bagis paid high attention to countries relevant to Turkey's EU accession process in 2009.
Within this framework, Bagis visited Belgium eight times, France four times, Sweden and the Czech Republic three times, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Germany twice, and Switzerland, Italy, Finland, Greece, Croatia, Austria, Spain, Moldova and Britain once in 2009.

Speaking to reporters after assuming the term presidency of the EU, Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos Cuyaube said that they wanted to speed up Turkey's accession negotiations in the upcoming months.
