Turkey's BIM says Q2 net up 57 pct

Turkey's discount supermarket chain BIM said Monday it drove up consolidated net profit by 57 percent to 106.4 million Turkish liras (71.8 million USD) in the first half of 2009.

Company's profit was 67.7 million TL in the same period of last year, BIM said in a statement.

BIM said its sales grew 24 percent in the first half this year over the same period of last year.

Earlier this year, BIM had announced plans to grow in and outside Turkey. BIM said it aimed to open 40 stores in Morocco this year and invest 110 million TL in new operations.

BIM operates around 2,300 stores and employs over 14,000 people.
