Turkey's Gul formally welcomes Macedonian President in Ankara

Turkish President Abdullah Gul formally welcomed Macedonia's President Gjorge Ivanov at Cankaya Presidential Palace in Ankara on Friday.

The two leaders will hold a bilateral meeting, and then co-chair meetings between delegations, and hold a joint press conference.

Gul will host a dinner in honor of Ivanov at Cankaya Presidential Palace.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will also meet with Ivanov at Prime Ministry residence.

Meeting with speaker

On Thursday, Ivanov met Turkish Parliament Speaker Mehmet Ali Sahin.

Speaking at the meeting Sahin described relations between Turkey and Macedonia as "perfect".

Sahin invited Macedonian Parliament Speaker to Turkey to boost relations between the parliaments.

"There are historical, cultural and social ties between Turkish and Macedonian people. Turkey wishes Macedonia to become a more prosperous and stable country. Turkey believes that Macedonia has necessary conditions to become a NATO member and supports joining of Macedonia to NATO," Sahin said.

Sahin also said Turkey wanted economic relations to improve with Macedonia.

Gjorge Ivanov thanked to Turkey's support for Macedonia's bid to become a NATO member and wanted Turkish investments in Macedonia to continue.
