Turkish General Staff said on Friday that Turkish Land Forces Command would complete the professionalisation process of five commando brigades in 2010.
During a weekly press briefing, Gen. Metin Gurak, chairman of the Communication Office with the Turkish General Staff, said that Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) desired to recruit fully professional personnel in its commando brigades.
"Activities aiming at the professionalisation of commando troops continue as planned. In 2010, five commando brigades will become professional," Gurak said.
Gurak also said the professionalisation process of one commando brigade of the Turkish Gendarmerie Forces was completed successfully in 2008 and 2009, adding that a total of 872 specialized petty officers were recruited within the scope of the new system.
