Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) MFA on Friday urged Greek FM Dora Bakoyannis to leave aside her initiatives to dilute rights of Turkish Cypriot people under the name of "European Cyprus".
Turkish Cypriot Foreign Ministry in a written statement also urged Bakoyannis to contribute to the settlement of the problem. The written statement called on Bakoyannis to encourage Greek Cypriot administration to initiate extensive talks.
Referring to statement of Bakoyannis, in which she reiterated Greek-Greek Cypriot allegations affirming that "A European Cyprus would not need Turkey's status as guarantor state", Turkish Cypriot MFA's written statement said, "Ms Bakoyannis knows very well that guarantees in Cyprus are put in place through international agreements which Greece is also a signatory."
"Because of the crimes it committed, laws it violated and the commitments it failed to meet, Greece knows well why Turkey's guarantor status is vital. They know that Turkey's guarantor status is the most vital assurance for Turkish Cypriots," the statement said.
The statement underscored that Turkey's active and de facto guarantor status is the "sine quo non" of Turkish Cypriot people.
