Turkish Cyprus president to meet with UN's Ban
Turkish Cyprus President Talat will go to New York to hold a series of talks next week.
President of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Mehmet Ali Talat, will go to New York to hold a series of talks next week.
TRNC Presidency Spokesman Hasan Ercakica told reporters in a press conference Friday that Talat would visit New York between september 22-28, and meet UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.
Ercakica said a trilateral meeting between Talat, Ban and the Greek Cypriot Leader Dimitris Christofias, who would be visiting New York around the same dates with Talat, was unlikely as the Greek Cypriot side was not sympathetic to the idea.
Ercakica told reporters that Talat who held a series of meetings in Brussels with EU Commissioners also met with the representatives of EU countries in Brussels and think-thank organizations over breakfast Tuesday.
Ercakica said Talat would return to TRNC later Tuesday after meeting with journalists.
He said the Cypriot leaders would remeet Thursday, under the second round of the extensive peace talks in Lefkosa, and continue to discuss "the government" topic under the "administration and power sharing" heading.
