Turkish Energy Minister meets Iranian counterpart

Turkish Energy & Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Guler met Iranian Minister of Industries & Mining Ali Akbar Mehrabian in Austrian capital of Vienna late on Monday.

Both ministers are in Vienna to participate in the general conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

"We are planning to carry out joint projects with our neighbor Iran, which has rich underground resources," Guler told A.A correspondent after the meeting.

Guler said the meeting took place upon Iran's demand and Turkey and Iran are at the stage of making an agreement in principle on mining and industrial minerals.

"Iranian and Turkish teams are choosing fields and setting their priorities," he told.

Guler said the UN and the USA understands when Turkey explains the reasons of its cooperation with Iran.

"This cooperation results from needs, and we have no problems with UN Security Council or the U.S. administration," he also said.

Guler is expected to return to Turkey on Tuesday.
