Turkish, German agriculture ministers to open food fair in Germany

The Turkish and German agriculture ministers will inaugurate a food fair in Germany on Saturday.

Turkish Agriculture & Rural Affairs Minister Mehdi Eker and his German counterpart Ilse Aigner will open the ANUGA Food Fair in the German city of Cologne.

This will be the first time Turkey will join the fair as a guest country.

A gastronomy team, comprised of 14 chefs and a waiter, has arrived in Cologne to promote Turkish food at the fair.

"We will promote both traditional and modern Turkish cuisine," the head chef Serkan Bozkurt told AA correspondent on Thursday.

Lokma (Turkish doughnut), manti (Turkish ravioli), simit (Turkish bagel), baklava (multilayered flaky pastry with walnuts, pistachios), sahlep (drink made from sahlep root in hot milk and cinnamon) and kir pidesi (a special type of Turkish pizza) are some of food to be served at the fair.

Also, Bozkurt said German chef Joachim Wissler and he would prepare food for over 400 guests, including CEOs of food companies, editors of food magazines and statesmen, on Friday.

More than 6,500 companies will participate in the ANUGA Food Fair. Turkey is expected to be represented by over 190 companies at the fair.

The fair will stay open between October 10 and 14.
