Turkish military asks US for Whiskey helicopters
Turkey's top general asked helicopter from US for military operations in southeastern Turkey.
Turkey's top general asked on Thursday helicopter from the United States for military operations in southeastern Turkey.
"Use of armed helicopters in the fight against militancy is very important," Turkish General Staff Chief Gen. Ilker Basbug said.
Basbug said that they had to use double-engine Whiskey helicopters in the operations in southeastern Turkey.
"We will manufacture our first armed helicopter together with Italian Augusto firm in 2013. Until then, we have to procure Whiskey helicopters," Basbug said.
"But its manufacturing discontinued in the United States. We can only obtain them from U.S. Naval Forces. This issue was discussed once again with U.S. army authorities during my visit. We are hopeful about it," he added.
