Turkish Energy & Natural Resources Ministry Undersecretary Metin Kilci said on Friday that Turkey had a great strategic importance in the world in the aspect of its geopolitical location, and everybody accepted this reality.

Delivering a speech on the last day of the "Black Sea Energy and Economy Forum" held in the Romanian capital of Bucharest, Kilci said that Turkey, which took place in intersection point of Asia, Europe and Africa, was also an energy corridor and terminal between Middle East, Caspian and Central Asia and the EU.

Stressing the importance of nuclear energy too, Kilci said that Turkey took important steps in nuclear energy area, adding that activities to establish nuclear power plants were on the final stage.

Kilci said that Turkish straits were important in the aspect of energy security as 3.7 percent of world's daily oil was carried through straits in Turkey.

He noted that the amount of oil and oil products which were carried through Istanbul Strait was 60 million tons in 1996, adding that this amount exceeded 150 million tons today.

Kilci said that Turkey would host the 2nd "Black Sea Energy and Economy Forum".
